Biography

Michael was born on November 19, 1952 to M. Farrell Robbins and Beulah (Haverly) Robbins in Bedford, Indiana. He married Patricia Kay Canada on 1978. Patricia recently retired as a school teacher with Bedford-North Lawrence Schools in 2016. They have two children, Zackary, an Indiana State Police Detective, and Marcy Inman, who is working on her second Masters Degree. They currently have five grandchildren. Mike and Patty are members of the Bedford First United Methodist Church. Mike graduated from Bedford High School in 1971 and attended Indiana State University. In 1976 he was hired as a Deputy by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department and attended the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1978. He was hired by the Bedford Police Department in 1979 and spent the next 28 years with that department. During that span he served as a Patrol Officer, Firearms Instructor, Detective, Crew Commander, and Assistant Chief, retiring from that position in August of 2007. Almost immediately, in August 2007 he began another law enforcement career with the newly formed Gaming Control Division of the Indiana Gaming Commission. In that position he served as investigator, firearms instructor, and Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Instructor until he retired after 10 years of service on October 2017. He continues to serve local law enforcement agencies with firearms instruction as requested. Mike received the Entered Apprentice Degree at Bedford Lodge #14 on November 18, 1986, the Fellowcraft Degree on December 2, 1986, and the Master Mason Degree on January 6, 1987. He has served as Worshipful Master of Bedford Lodge #14 in 1992, 2007, and 2013. Mike has been a member of the Lawrence County Past Masters Association since 1992. He joined the Indianapolis Valley Scottish Rite in 1989 and is a dual member of George Rogers Clark Valley. Mike belongs to the Bedford York Rite bodies, serving as High Priest of Hacker Chapter #34 in 2009, Illustrious Master of Bedford Council #62 in 2010, and Eminent Commander of Bedford Commandery #42 in 2011. He also belongs to the Indiana Council of Thrice Illustrious Masters, Grand Council Order of High Priesthood, and Indiana Past Masters Association. He received the DSA Award in 2016.
